Dentons Chengdu Office Sings Deal with South Sichuan Port Area, China (Sichuan) Pilot Free Trade Zone

Liu Shoumin, vice-chair of All China Lawyers Association and head of Dentons Chengdu office, and Chen Qian, senior partner, were invited to take part in the “Free Trade Development and Intelligent Manufacturing”- Industrial Talents and Projects Meeting on July 6, 2018, held by South Sichuan Port Area, China (Sichuan) Luzhou Pilot Free Trade Zone (Luzhou Free Trade Zone).

During the meeting, Mr. Liu, on behalf of our Chengdu office, singed a deal with the Luzhou Free Trade Zone, formalization the relationship between Dentons Chengdu and Luzhou Free Trade Zone. As part of the deal, Dentons, together with Liguang Law Offices, will serve as the legal counsel, and provide general and specialized legal service to the Luzhou Free Trade Zone. With our nationwide and global resources and talent, Dentons will be able to offer seamless legal service to the Luzhou Free Trade Zone and assist with policy innovation and reform, as well as improvement in business environment.

Mr. Liu said at the event that Luzhou Free Trade Zone needs to attract more legal talents, particularly those with expertise in international trade disputes, commerce, and international trade rules so there is proper support to address legal challenges as the Trade Zone matures. This is a view shared by the Management Committee of the Trade Zone, which will work closely with Dentons to achieve these goals.

Luzhou Free Trade Zone is situated in Longmatan District of Luzhou, Sichuan Province, with a planned area of 19.99 square kilometers. It is a pilot initiative in response to the role of “opening up inland area in tandem with coastal area” that the central government delegates to Sichuan Province, and will buttress Sichuan’s efforts to be a regional economic hub in inland China.
